Lent: Life Practices for Tough Times

Lent invites us to engage in 40 days of intentional spiritual practice as a way of following Jesus to the cross, out of the tomb, and into new life. This year were considering practices for living through challenging times and living into healing, wholeness, and justice. Practices include Choose Life, Imagine, Persist, See Clearly, Rise Up, and more. Each Sunday worship service will be followed by an “Inspiration Gathering” to encourage one another along the journey. Book groups meet on Wednesday evenings: Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Life Together” at 5:30; Melvin Bray’s “Better” at 7. Hope to see you on the journey!

Annual Meeting

What do you get when you cross a bunch of New England Congregationalists with a group of social justice activists? An Annual Meeting (well, lots of meetings, actually, but this is the great-grandparent of them all).

This Friday, March 3. The meeting begins in the Dining Room at 6:30; you’re welcome to bring your brown bag supper beginning at 5:30.

Hope to see you there!

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is both a reminder of our mortality and an opportunity to start over. We remember that we are dust and that the One Who Made Us loves us still and calls us to new and fuller life.

On March 1 we’ll offer three opportunities for all people to experience this blessing of re-orientation: Ashes will be offered at noon in the church Chapel and from 1 to 2 at (or outside) the Black Sheep Deli; the Ash Wednesday Service (which will also include the imposition of ashes) is at 7 o’clock in the church Sanctuary.

Hope to see you and begin the Lenten journey together!

Eat, Sing and Laugh for Justice’s Sake

Hope to see you this evening at the Merry Musical–this year’s theme is Keep Calm and Carry On . . . Seeking Justice. Potluck supper begins at 5:30, music & comedy acts start after we eat. See you in the Dining Room!

Find Your Place at the Opportunities Fair!

More than 20 ministry teams will participate in an Opportunities Fair after worship this Sunday, January 22. Come, learn about various ministries, and see how you can make a difference in the life of the church and the well-being of our world.

Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday

In worship on January 15 we will honor the person, legacy, and challenge of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.–in song, scripture and words. We will also renew our congregational commitment to working to eradicate racism.
