Nicaragua Sister City Project - Following the Contra War in Nicaragua in the 1980s, Amherst adoped La Paz Central as a 'sister city' to help heal the wounds of the war. Two delegations (in 2001 and 2003) from 1st Church and the community have traveled to La Paz on work projects. See how rewarding it can be to put your faith into action. A group returned to La Paz in February 2007.
2013 Amherst Delegation to La Paz Centro, Nicaragua
We are gearing up to send forth our bi‐annual delegation to our sister city, La Paz Centro, Nicaragua. We will be going February 16‐24. As usual, First Congregational Church is well represented in a group that will consist of at least 21 people, five of whom are teen-agers.
Our project will again be planting trees. We will also paint and repair a section of the central library, and host a medical clinic. We will each stay with a family in La Paz Centro, speaking only in Spanish! First Congregational Church has been wonderfully supportive of our past ventures and you have the opportunity to continue this tradition this time. Thanks to all who played a part in making our Electronics Recycling Fundraiser and the Christmas wreath sales so successful. Both these efforts are major contributors to our fundraising for the trip. Another way you can help is to contribute school supplies and medical supplies, which we will take with us and distribute on February 16. These supplies can be brought to church and delivered to any on the list above.
Thank you so much for your support!
Liz Etheridge,
for the 2013 delegation.
