Going Green

Four years ago First Churchers voted to Go Green. The Peace, Justice and Earth Concerns Team has chosen "Helping First Church and First Churchers go Green" to be a focus for the coming months. To read the full text of the Earth Covenant Resolution passed May 4, 2003, click here. We have some ideas, but would like your input and help.

Recycling Opportunities

Some ideas we suggested at the last meeting were:

  • Mugs for coffee hour and other meetings, instead of paper or styrofoam
  • Easily accessible sets of recyling bins in several places around the building
  • Replacing the remaining incandescent light bulbs in the building with energy-saving light bulbs
  • Helping all the members to change their light bulbs by suggesting sources for the least expensive energy-saving light bulbs
  • Investigating installing photovoltaic cells and solar panels for hot water on the flat roof of the nursery school wing
  • Updating our previous energy use audits

If you have any thoughts on these ideas, or more suggestions, or want to participate in any way in helping achieve our greening goal, contact or email:
