Come, Lord Jesus
O that you would tear open the heavens and come down… —Isaiah 64:1
Advent is a time of preparing, waiting, watching, and living into the expectation that God’s dream for the world—and for us—is being fulfilled. That God does this by becoming one of us (and living in us, too) is almost beyond comprehension. And so we focus on the birth of a special baby. Babies are miraculous and wonderful embodiments of hope; they are also non-threatening.
But what if we prepared for something more than a baby? What if we made room in our thinking and living for a full-grown person who would challenge the unjust powers, offer hope to the oppressed, love us, and heal us in the broken places? What if we watched carefully to discover all the ways this Jesus is in our midst?
Let us bring all our hopes and longings into this season of hope, peace, joy, and love. Let us celebrate together the many ways that God is with us:
